Title: Does Silicon Have a Place in Medical Imaging?

Abstract:

A short introduction on photo-detection with silicon radiation sensors and implications for application of silicon in medical imaging will be presented. The role of silicon detectors and front-end electronics in specific applications will be discussed. Some recent results from development projects, carried out by the CIMA Collaboration, will be shown in more detail. The projects discussed are: -- Novel design of a parallax-free Compton enhanced PET camera module: Towards high-resolution functional brain imaging. -- A Compton Probe for Prostate Imaging -- Proposal for a very high spatial resolution Compton PET machine for small animals
