Abstract:

Abtract: After providing motivations for a "Brane-Universe" scenario, two cases with one extra dimension of space will be discussed. It will be shown that without invoking any very large or small parameters in the fundamental theory, it is possible to generate and stabilize the very large Planck-scale/Weak-scale hierarchy observed in nature. This mechanism for solving the Hierarchy problem has a very striking TeV scale phenomenology; directly observable spin-2 resonances which are strongly coupled excitations of the graviton, followed by stringy excitations of Standard Model particles. The second case discussed is that of an extra dimension of infinite extent, which has a new and surprising means of hiding itself. There will be more pictures than equations.
