Abstract:

Extracting physical parameters from experimental measurements can be performed by Bayesian or Frequentist techniques. The different philosophies are explained, and examples are given where the results can be particularly sensitive to the methodology used. This can be particularly relevant to the extraction of upper limits, and is thus relevant for typical search experiments.
