Abstract: The BaBar experiment at SLAC has completed the first part of its mission by observing CP violation in B decays. This was the first precision test of the Standard Model CKM mechanism for generating CP violation in weak interactions and the first observation of CP violation, outside of the Kaon system, since its discovery in 1964. After briefly reviewing the phenomonology of CP violation, I will describe the BaBar precision measurement of sin2beta in decays as well as related, but less precise, measurements in complementary B decay modes. I will conclude with with an experimental outlook on the B factory studies of the CKM matrix.
