Title: IceCube, the origins of ultra-high energy cosmic-rays, and dark matter in the nearby universe

Abstract:

This talk will present some new and interesting results from IceCube. The first is a limit on neutrino production in gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) that recently appeared in Nature. The results disfavor GRBs as the source of ultra-high energy cosmic-rays. I will also discuss some recent theoretical work that further strengthens the case. The second is a set of limits on dark matter production in the Sun, the Earth and the galactic center and halo. Time permitting, I may also review new IceCube results on neutrino oscillations and other topics.
