Abstract:
The ATLAS pixel detector was installed in June 2007 and has been fully operational since August 2008. It is the largest hybrid pixel detector built to date, using 80M pixels to cover a sensitive area of 2 m2 for precision charged particle tracking. This talk will review the status of the hardware, making comparisons with the CMS experiment where appropriate. Initial calibration results using test pulses as well as cosmic rays will be presented. Areas of concern for long term operation will be discussed, including plans for possible upgrades.
