Abstract:

Recently, E821, an experiment at Brookhaven National Laboratory to measure with high precision the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, has reported a new result which differs from a calculation based on the standard model by more than two standard deviations. The motivation, experimental technique, systematic errors, and final experimental result will be discussed.
