Abstract:

The ALS is in the early stages of planning an upgrade of the accelerator lattice and injection system to provide diffraction-limited soft x-ray beams. I will describe some interesting and some surprisingly mundane technologies that will enable this upgrade. I will then explore the emerging experimental tools and programs that will take advantage of the high coherent power that will be made available by the upgrade. Finally, I will show some recent results measuring the phase behavior of a chiral skyrmion lattice coherent soft x-ray scattering.
