Abstract: The LUX dark matter experiment has been operating at the 4850' level of the Sanford Underground Research Facility, located in Lead, SD, for the past year. I will present the first search for WIMP dark matter with the LUX detector, a time projection chamber using 300 kg of liquid xenon as a scattering target, as well as the experimental program of the planned 7-ton LZ experiment.
