Title: Brave New World: Jet Production (and Disappearance) in the LHC using the ATLAS Detector

Abstract:

I will describe the first cross-section measurements of inclusive jet and dijet production at a proton-proton center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, using LHC data taken by the ATLAS detector. These measurements probe quantum chromodynamics at the highest man-made energies ever produced at a collider. I will also report on searches for exotic models of new physics in dijet final states, as well as the first direct observation of jet quenching in lead ion collisions at a nucleon center-of-mass energy of 2.76 TeV.
