Title: The CDF Silicon Vertex Trigger: Performance and Physics Prospects

Abstract:

The Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) facility will begin observing collisions at TeV in March 2001 (Run II). The Silicon Vertex Trigger (SVT) is one of the major upgrades of CDF II. In practice it provides on-line access to 2D silicon detector tracks information with offline-level resolution and efficiency. CDF II plans to collect large samples of fully hadronic B decays thanks to SVT: it will be the first time that such events are collected at an hadronic collider. These samples will give access to several measurements, ranging from the study of CP violation in the beauty sector to the measurement of . The first part of the talk will give a general overview of the SVT design and goals, together with the latest results from commissioning. I will then concentrate on the studies for the physics implementation of SVT based triggers, discussing the unique physics possibilities open to analysis based on SVT selections.
