Title: Hunt for the Higgs Boson

Abstract:

Ian Hinchliffe will describe the decades-long hunt for the Higgs boson, the last missing piece of the Standard Model of particle physics. Recent evidence suggests the Higgs boson has finally been seen at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. But how can we know if it is indeed the Higgs? LBNL physicists and engineers have played major roles in building and operating the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, and are now deeply involved in the data analysis. Hinchliffe will describe the Higgs and what it means to discover it.
