Subject: Title and abstract for Eric Hawker's Talk on Tue Aug 18th Date: Mon, 3 Aug 1998 09:59:08 -0700 (PDT) From: Brad Abbott To: mkihanya@lbl.gov Hi Mary, Here is Eric Hawker's Title and Abstract My talk will be titled "Measurement of the Flavor Asymmetry in the Nucleon Sea". Abstract Fermilab experiment E866 has reported a precise measurement of the ratio of Drell-Yan yields from an 800 GeV/c proton beam incident on hydrogen and deuterium targets. From this ratio of yields the asymmetry between anti-down and anti-up quark distributions in the nucleon was determined over a wide range in Bjorken-x. The x dependence of the ratio of anti-down to anti-up quarks shows a substantial excess of anti-down quarks for x<0.25. For x>0.25 this ratio of anti-quark distributions appears to be much closer to unity. Predictions made by current nucleon structure parametrizations and several theoretical nonperturbative QCD models will be compared to the E866 results.
